Love to cook? Want to learn? Special Delivery could use you in the kitchen! Volunteers are preparing and packing meals in two shifts, Monday through Friday.
Morning Shift: 8 - 11 a.m., Monday through Friday. Breakfast and lunch are prepared and packaged- duties include preparing sandwiches, salads, soups and juices and packaging and organizing deliveries for later that afternoon.
Afternoon Shift: 2 - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Dinners- hot and fresh from the oven are dished up according to dietary needs and packaged for each individual.
Volunteer Drivers are a vital lifeline for clients, providing them with friendly conversation and of course their hot meals- food for the body and the soul! Driving is one of our most rewarding volunteer experiences. As a driver you will see first-hand how Special Delivery’s fresh, healthy food impacts the people we serve.
Driver Shift: 3 - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. An individual or a group can commit to driving one day a week or more. If you commit with a group you can alternate weeks & split the duties.
*All pick-ups are at Special Delivery’s headquarters in Mission Hills. Delivery routes are within a 7-mile radius of the headquarters & typically involve up to 10 drop-offs that can be completed in about 1 hour.
*Volunteer Drivers provide their own transportation and all meals for one route delivery can fit easily into a small compact car. Any licensed driver, with proof of auto insurance can deliver meals.
Office Volunteers are needed for a variety of tasks every day. Office helpers will answer the phones, sort through donated produce, organize the pantry, help with mailings or event preparation & support general office tasks. We can use volunteers in the office anytime from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Grocery Bags are sent out for clients on Fridays with the day’s meals. A variety of snacks, canned goods & fresh produce are packed and delivered to each client for use over the weekend. Volunteers are needed to organize & fill grocery bags around 11 a.m. on Fridays only.
